About Run for Hope

Run For Hope is an annual run organised by Four Seasons Hotel Singapore since 1993, making this the single largest run in aid of cancer research here in Singapore. Since 2008, they have been partnering the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) to raise awareness and support for critical, life-saving cancer research by dedicated scientists at the Centre. Every year, more than 12,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in Singapore. Through advances in science and dedicated cancer research activities at the NCCS, there is hope for cancer patients. Beyond donations, Run For Hope also managed to raise awareness on some of the rarer varieties of cancers, as well as the difficulties that many people who have the illness face on a day-to-day basis.

Run For Hope maintains its tradition as a non-competitive leisure run. So everyone; anyone; young & old, can join in the worthy cause & fun.

Their Inspiration

Mr Isadore Sharp, CEO and founder of the Canadian-based Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, lost his fourth son Christopher to melanoma cancer in 1978. In memory of his son, Mr Sharp spearheaded a worldwide programme that established annual runs raising funds for cancer research in cities where their hotels and resorts are located. He was inspired by Terry Fox, whom despite having lost a leg to cancer, ran across Canada to raise money and cancer awareness in 1980. Increasingly convinced that more needed to be done, Mr Sharp ensured his legacy lived on even after Terry’s death. For more than 40 years, additional events were being organised by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts around the world to support cancer research and care in their own communities.

An average of 14, 000 new cancer cases occurred in Singapore each year between 2014 – 2018. It is no longer rare to find someone you know or love is or was affected by cancer. The threat of cancer is very real with the disease accounting for 28,135 deaths in 2014-2018. However, with advances in science and robust cancer research activities, we are hopeful that the progressive breakthroughs made by the NCCS team can lead to a cure.
